A WORKED EXAMPLE

One batch.
Any portion.

A recipe has 2,400 kcal and weighs 1,600 g after cooking.

A 350 g bowl contains 525 kcal.

2,400 ÷ 1,600 × 350 = 525 kcal

When this works

Use it for an evenly mixed recipe, such as soup, porridge or a casserole. Each gram is assumed to have the same calories. If one portion has more meat, sauce or toppings, calculate those separately.

Use the finished food weight. Cooking changes weight as water is absorbed or evaporates. Drained fat, discarded ingredients or cooking liquid can also change the total calories, so adjust your batch total when needed.

This tool divides a calorie total you already have. It doesn’t estimate an unknown meal from a photo or find ingredients for you.
